An early morning ocean surge on Saturday sacked communities around Kuramo Beach in Lagos, killed one person instantly .
Confirming the incident, Mr Femi Oke-Osayintolu, General Manager of The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said the surge occurred at about 2 a.m. when residents were asleep, adding that those affected were mainly people occupying illegal shanties at the beach front.
In the meantime, three bodies of those earlier declared missing were later recovered Sunday bringing the total number of dead bodies so far recovered to 4 while 12 persons are still missing
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency General Manager, Mr Femi Osanyintolu, , said divers and other rescuers were still searching for the remaining bodies.
According to Osanyintolu , most of the victims were those occupying illegal shanties at the waterfront.
Meanwhile, Kuramo Beach and other waterfront resorts in the area had been cordoned off by security officials and personnel of emergency agencies.
LASEMA has also advised residents of waterfront settlements in Lagos to vacate such places immediately, for fear of a reoccurrence of the Kuramo Beach tragedy.
